It's something that reflects your image back at you. For some reason or another, however, this image is sometimes distorted. I'm speaking to the ladies here, but self-image is also a problem with men. When we look at the mirror we rip ourselves apart.
This needs to stop.
From a young age starting at about middle school, girls are told indirectly that in order to be wanted you need to have a marketable body. We post our pictures all over the internet. We run the extra mile, skip dessert, some of us even make ourselves throw up after meals. We will walk the mall, drive around town, pick through friend's closets to find that perfect dress that hits us in all the right places. We tell our friends "angle is everything" on pictures we take to put on the internet. We take hundreds of selfies in order to find that one perfect one were we look absolutely flawless, but the other 99 those are trash. We look disgusting, horrendous, and ugly in the rest. Those are all lies.
I mean who in all honesty really wants to be perfect? Be perfectly tan, perfectly curvy, have perfect hair? Being perfect is absolutely no fun! What defines who you are as a person if there isn't anything different about you? When you compare yourself to others it makes God so upset. He made you a masterpiece. He painted you, created you in your mother's womb. He thinks you're all together beautiful. Then you go and start comparing yourself to his other masterpieces. This frustrates God! He made you unique and doesn't want you comparing yourself to others. Essentially when we pick out things we dislike about ourselves we are rejecting God. We think he failed in making us. Friends let me tell you something, GOD DOESN'T MAKE MISTAKES.
As much as I try to remember this, it is quite hard. The mirror lies and its right next to my bed. I wake up in the morning and I'm faced with well, me. I know satan tries to get a grip on me. Telling me lies. Things like :
No one could ever love you. You'll never get married. You are not worthy.
However, I know the truth which is
you are sacred,
you are treasured,
you are loved,
you are His.
I don't aspire to be pretty though. I aspire to be beautiful. Beauty is from the inside out. You aren't just a pretty face. So stop asking your friends "am I pretty enough?" Start saying I am more than enough! I am more than enough because I belong to God. God created me, there for I am a beautiful creation. I may have flaws, but that makes me who I am. Lets be confident in who God made us.
I’ll say darling you are:
pretty intelligent
pretty creative
pretty freakin’ amazing
The mirror may lie but, the God who created us never will.
