Every time I fall flat on my face.
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalm 23:1
How comforting are those words?
How comforting are those words when the world constantly tells you-you do lack something?
you lack beauty
you lack confidence
you lack a college acceptance letter
you lack a job
you lack a boyfriend
you lack anyone who could possibly care about you.
It's ironic because the enemy says you are nothing, but he works so desperately to convince you of lies. He works so desperately for people's souls. Because guess what? He knows you are not. He knows you are not nothing. He knows you can be a powerful vessel for Christ, and he doesn't want that. He knows that you have a seat reserved for you in eternity and it absolutely KILLS him that he can do nothing about it. So his game plan is to try and steal you of all your joy here on earth.
We were created by a God who never designed us to live in a sin-stained, tattered, hurting world. The perpetual lies, the anger, and the resentment that we experience every day of our lives were never designed to be something tangible to us. You see in my earthly mindset, I am not enough. Which is ironic because I was never meant to be enough due to the fact that Christ is enough for me, I was created by Heavenly Hands. We try to fill our selves up with the things the devil tells us we lack. We think the perfect job will make us full. Or what about how physically attractive you are? Or maybe if you can just get into your dream school you will finally be fulfilled. But guess what? You are not what you have. This includes everything from a porche to depression. Those who are in Christ lack no good thing.
Sometimes I think "wow God if only you had given me, fill in the blank." And then I am oh so sweetly reminded that I am limited by time, while time is a slave to His majesty. We cannot see the perfect way that He is making, because of the worldly restraints on our minds. So why do we find it so hard to trust God? To know that every time you say no, it's saying yes to something bigger than our human heads can fully wrap around, You have a plan for everyone. And all those times we were too stubborn to listen to it, that was part of your plan too. So when our plan doesn't work out that doesn't mean we have to go to plan B, it just means we need to run to Him because His plans are greater than any plan A we had in mind.
We all have this hole in our hearts. We were born sinners so this is a natural byproduct. The devil tries to take that hole and shove as much fear, anxiety, and depression as he can in it. But his voice is so quiet in comparison to Our Creator. Because when he tries to do this it pushes us closer to God. And God starts speaking into that hole. He starts telling us the truth. You are loved, you are forgiven, you are chosen. That hole is meant to be filled with Jesus and nothing else. Rest in his truth. Inhale his grace, and exhale his sovereignty and forgiveness over your life. The Lord is guiding you through every step that you take, he holds you in His hands, and he says that as long as you let me lead you-you will lack nothing because I am everything.
