That needs to come to an end.
Next to loving God, loving your neighbor is just as important. I've seen first hand just how destructive hate can be. I've seen trust be crushed, helping hands be thrown to the side, and smiles be returned with a frown. These are all products of not forgiving. Of letting hate dwell inside of you. Of letting some one who "did you wrong" control your life. I had the privilege of meeting the most inspiring lady in a drivers ed. course. (Her name escapes me) This lady's daughter and best friend where killed in a drunk driving accident. They were coming home from a baby sitting gig and were stopped at a red light. All of a sudden a truck slammed into the back of them killing them both on impact. They did not suffer and went to live with their daddy in heaven instantly. Obviously both families were distraught. Nightmares haunted them every night, what ifs and if onlys haunted them during the day. They wanted the killer of their beautiful 17 year old daughters to rot in jail for the rest of his life. One day, however, the mother of one of the girls just couldn't take it anymore. She realized that making him rot in jail was accomplishing nothing and didn't make her feel any better. She decided to take all that hurt and turn it around into something good. She poured it into her daughters killer. She forgave him and told him exactly why she forgave him. My daddy in heaven sent his one and only son to die for me and to forgive me even though I am unworthy of it. You took my daughters life and though it seems impossible to forgive someone for that, I know it is what God calls me to do. Forgive the unforgivable, love those who seem unloveable, love your neighbor as you love yourself. Because of her act of forgiveness, this man came to know the Lord. He devoted his whole life to telling others about him as well as the dangers of drunk driving. Because of this woman's forgiveness she allowed fruit to be produced from a seemingly dry and barren land. Although her daughter did die, countless lives have been saved because of her. Her legacy lives on through the dozens that have been saved because of her life. People have found eternal life because of her. Forgiveness is the hardest thing to give away, but once you do you have become freed.
So next time when you feel hate and anger billowing up inside of you. Let it out. Forgive those people who have sinned against you because that is what God has done for you. And chances are you have probably done it to someone else. So let it go and give it to God. Look through eyes of grace and mercy and don't let hate consume you.
